Magismaja: Sound as a Way to Memory
Magismaja: Sound as a Way to Memory is the latest EP by Didin Marlin, continuing his exploration of South Sulawesi’s sonic archives as a living source of knowledge. Across three compositions, the work positions sound not only as an aesthetic medium, but also as a method for tracing memory, origin, and personal experience. Informed by a renewed engagement with La Galigo and encounters with archival recordings, the EP unfolds as a system that moves from time toward space and into an awareness of presence. Each track presents a distinct approach, from unreachable layers of time, to inherited formations of identity, to an attempt to approach memories that remain incomplete. By combining archival material, experimental practice, and personal reflection, Magismaja: Sound as a Way to Memory opens a space for listeners to experience the process of remembering itself, while contributing to the ongoing activation and preservation of cultural knowledge through sound in a contemporary context.
