Jal Brahim; A DJ and selector born in the Land of Rencong, based in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. His first step began in 2020; a small yet meaningful move to build the dance floor and bring joy to the city. He is part of a music selector collective called Dfungky Abizz, which aims to fill the city’s unease with rhythm and laughter. Through the soundscapes they create, Jal Brahim and his collective unknowingly offer what people around them truly need; a little escape through music and kinship.

Jal Brahim carries himself with pride and a strong character. Inspired by artists such as Dar Disku, Acid Arab, Habibie Funk, and local Acehnese musician Abu Bakar A.R. He weaves threads of inspiration he admires into his own musical identity; one that is bold, honest, and deeply rooted in his cultural heritage.

For five years, Jal Brahim has been pouring sounds to fill the silence of his hometown. During that time, he gathered ideas and nurtured love until he was ready to begin his first EP project; a work created not only for the sake of art, but also as a trace to be remembered in his later years.

“Sharia” is the name Jal Brahim chose for his debut EP. It was born from his deep affection for his homeland, yet also stands as an expression of his unease toward outdated values that have lost their meaning. Sharia becomes a kind of answer; appearing amid the beautiful chaos of a world overflowing with love.

The two tracks featured in the EP, “ASJI” and “ACHEH”, explore an experiment of blending two distinct sounds; Arab and Acehnese. Inspired by historical narratives that tell of the close ties between the Arab and Acehnese people since the 7th century, Jal Brahim seeks to revive the echoes of a past glory that now lives only in memories. Through these tracks, he positions himself as part of a gateway to the land of “A Thousand and One Nights,” striving to bring that remembered glory back to his own people.

For Jal Brahim, “Sharia” is also a message; a hope to reach the outside world, telling how the connection between Acehnese and Arab cultures has long been intertwined since the early medieval period. As time goes by, his desire to spread his sound across dance floors continue to grow; and for him, this is a blessing from God; a journey to fill the emptiness of the mind, the heart, and the sweat that drips with every beat.
